Your physician, on video

Not a rotating panel of strangers. The same doctor, the same record, available the same day anywhere you are physically located in California.

What video does and does not do

Roughly two thirds of our video visits are resolved without a trip to the clinic (sample figure). The other third needs hands, and we say so during the call rather than after it.

Well suited to video

  • Result reviews

Fifteen minutes to walk through a panel properly, instead of trading portal messages for a week.

  • Medication titration

Dose changes and side-effect reviews almost never need an examination.

  • Mental health follow-up

Structured PHQ-9 and GAD-7 review from somewhere you feel comfortable.

  • Post-discharge checks

Following a hospital stay without asking you to travel while you recover.

  • Rashes with photographs

Send images through the portal beforehand and we look at them together.

  • Coordination calls

Joining a call with a specialist so the plan is agreed once, with everyone present.

Needs to be in person

  • A new abdominal pain

Needs palpation. Guarding and rebound cannot be assessed over video.

  • An ear, a throat swab or a joint

Otoscopy, culture and joint examination all need hands and instruments.

  • Chest pain or breathlessness

This is an emergency assessment, not a video one. Call 911.

  • A suspicious skin lesion

Dermoscopy and, often, a biopsy. Photographs help us triage, not diagnose.

  • Anything needing a controlled substance

Federal and state rules frequently require an in-person visit first.

  • You are outside California

Licensure follows your physical location. Call the member line and we will help you locally.

A video visit is never the right response to an emergency. For chest pain, sudden breathlessness, stroke symptoms, heavy bleeding, confusion or thoughts of self-harm, call 911. For self-harm you can also call or text 988.

How a video visit runs

  1. 01

    Request a slot

Through the portal, or by calling the member line. Same-day slots are held open every morning and afternoon.

  2. 02

    Pre-visit questionnaire

Two minutes in the portal so your physician arrives with the context already loaded.

  3. 03

    The visit

Browser-based, no application to install, with a phone fallback if the connection fails.

  4. 04

    Plan and prescriptions

Sent to your pharmacy during the call, with a written summary in the portal afterwards.

  5. 05

    Escalation if needed

If the video shows this needs an in-person examination, we book it before the call ends.
